Boldon Cricket Club

What We Did.

Boldon Cricket Club faced increasing electricity costs that were placing pressure on operational budgets, particularly during busy daytime periods when energy consumption was at its highest. The club also had limited visibility into long-term opportunities for reducing energy use and improving efficiency. Alongside rising costs, there was a growing desire to strengthen sustainability credentials and reduce environmental impact. As a community sports organisation, the club required a financially viable solution that could deliver long-term value while minimising disruption to day-to-day operations.

Direct Global worked alongside Oakes Energy to deliver a tailored solar PV solution designed specifically around the club’s operational demands and energy profile. The project began with a detailed review of the site’s electricity usage to identify the most effective system design and generation potential.

A rooftop solar PV installation was then implemented to maximise on-site renewable energy generation and reduce reliance on imported grid electricity during operational hours. Support was also provided around funding and project coordination, helping make the project financially achievable for the club. The solution was designed with future integration in mind, creating a pathway for enhanced energy monitoring, reporting and optimisation through platforms such as Bitpool.

The completed installation has significantly reduced the club’s reliance on grid electricity while helping lower long-term operational energy costs. The project has also improved the club’s sustainability performance by reducing carbon emissions and supporting a more resilient energy strategy against future market volatility.

Beyond the immediate financial and environmental benefits, the installation provides Boldon Cricket Club with a modern renewable energy solution that supports the long-term future of the organisation. The project demonstrates how sports clubs and community organisations can successfully adopt renewable technologies to improve efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen environmental performance.
